WHAT IF YOU REALLY ARE THE ANSWER?
I don't know how many times I've heard the world is going to hell in a hand basket this year. Too many.
While there is so much we can't control, there is equally as much we can do to make a difference. If the world is crumbling it's because we the people have allowed it and have chosen not to be a part of the solution.
YOU are the answer someone else is waiting for. That's not corny or cliche... it's true. Every time we say, "Somebody really should..." we need to ask ourselves if we have the solution. So many of us do, but we're held back because we fear failure, we are afraid of what others will think or we're still carrying shame or regret from our pasts.
Guess what?? It's not someone else's job to make the world a better place!! It's yours... and mine.
One of the first times I realized I was the answer was right after our home was built on ABC's Extreme Make Over Home Edition. I realized that I was lonely and tired of wearing a mask with other women. I was desperate to hang out with a group that wanted to talk about real life with no judgement. I decided to start a women's night called Fight Night in my back yard. It was going to be something where women from all walks of life could come to and not have to pretend for a second that they had their life together. We were going to fight for the things that mattered TOGETHER!! I WAS TERRIFIED!!!!! But I knew I couldn't be the only one struggling in this dept. so I had to do it!
STEP ONE: CREATE A FACEBOOK EVENT.
STEP TWO: TRY NOT TO THROW UP AND DELETE FACEBOOK EVENT.
The night of our first gathering I was so nervous, 1) that no one would show up and 2) that no one would show up. After dinner was over and the music had been played I got up and realized I didn't really prepare a message... I was so nervous I said fart instead of smart at one point. BUT, people did show up and it sparked something in the hearts of so many women for the following 9 years. I'm glad I took the next step and didn't delete the event!
